Melissa Cate
Melissa started with CPT as a Beginner student. During her Beginner class, we noticed her aptitude with animals and her communication abilities. As she continued through our Intermediate, Advanced and Competition programs, Melissa asked about entering CPT’s in-house apprentice program. We eagerly accepted her request. After an 18-month apprenticeship, Melissa graduated with honors and has served as a CPT Trainer for the past 3.5 years. In addition to her career specific education at CPT, Melissa graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Melissa is a Bikkram Yoga enthusiast who owns two Boxers, Zeek and Nemo, and a Border Collie, McKenzie. Melissa and Zeek compete in both obedience and agility. In obedience, Melissa and Zeek have earned an AKC Novice Obedience (CD) title, including a third place finish, and are training for their Open (CDX) title. In agility, Melissa and Zeek have earned a United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) Advanced Snookers title and have currently completed four legs toward their Master Snookers title, including two Super Q’s. Melissa and Zeek have also earned an Advanced Pairs Relay title. They presently compete at the Masters Pairs Relay level. Melissa and Zeek have achieved their USDAA Advanced Jumpers (AJ) and Advanced Standard (ASD) titles and have achieved two Masters Jumpers legs. While competing in USDAA agility, Melissa and Zeek have earned over 20 first place finishes. They have also achieved qualifying runs toward titles, including several placements and one first-place finish, from other sanctioning organizations. The USDAA currently lists Zeek as the third ranked agility Boxer in the Southeast and the fifth ranked Boxer in the nation. McKenzie, who is presently one year of age, will start competing in 2010 in both obedience and agility. Melissa continues to further her knowledge by attending seminars from trainers such as Susan Garrett, Greg Derrett, Deborah Zappia, and Joel Silverman. Melissa teaches agility and obedience group classes at CPT’s Sandy Springs, Marietta, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek locations. In addition, she performs in-home private lessons, board training, and boarding services for CPT.
