Subject: CPT Students And Trainer Achieve Competition Successes Since our inception CPT has trained the pets of over 25,000 Atlanta area customers. The vast majority arrive at CPT to obtain better trained household companions. They may complete a Beginner and Intermediate Group Class, some Private Lessons or a Board Train and feel their goals are met. However, some become so enthralled with the activity of dog training that they want to continue onward both for the joy of the activity and the benefits of added skills. CPT's Competition Program provides an excellent avenue for persons and dogs who wish to continue past the basic pet level. Plus, students have a lot of FUN when they win! Last Saturday CPT enrolled four dog/handler teams in the Lawrenceville Kennel Club AKC dog obedience trials. In the Novice A class CPT students took third and fifth place out of twenty entrants and in the Novice B class CPT took third place out of thirty-six entrants. On Sunday during the Conyers Kennel Club AKC trials we fared even better. CPT’s three competitors in the Novice A class achieved second, third, and fourth place out of 20 dog/handler teams and missed first place by only half a point. In the Novice B class CPT took fifth place out of forty entrants. Of the Novice A dogs/handlers, Kit Kerr and her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Shadee, took fifth place Saturday and second place Sunday with a score of 196 out of a possible 200 points. Eileen Retel and her Golden Retriever, Boomer, took third place Saturday and third on Sunday with an outstanding score of 195. Jennifer Falkner and her Boston Terrier, Hampton, would have had second place on Saturday but laid down on the sit stay. However, Jennifer and Hampton redeemed themselves on Sunday with a fourth place finish. In Novice B, CPT Trainer Karen Smalley and her Border Collie, Casey, achieved the third and fifth place finishes described above. Novice B is exclusively for experienced handlers. Whereas, the Novice A category is for first-time competitors. Kit, Eileen and Karen also completed all three legs required to complete their AKC Companion Dog (C.D.) title. This was Karen’s second title. CPT has also achieved success in Agility competitions. CPT Agility Trainer Jessa Sacco and her German Shepherd Dog, Piper, won several competitions at the Open level in August and September. Assistant Agility Trainer Holly Schmidt and her Toy Poodle, Pippin, have won numerous competitions, totaled more than 30 points toward their Masters Agility Championship (MACH), and qualified for the AKC Agility Nationals.
